Almost a year to the day my father died, my grandfather passed away. It wasn't sudden, and he was 95, but it was still very difficult. He was the father figure in my life and an amazing person. My ridiculous sense of humor is in part because of him. Death sucks, but it's inevitable and you're never prepared for it.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030175269624112386.post-7530601652586827142015-02-07T18:14:00.001-05:002015-02-07T18:16:11.123-05:00Thoughts and ReflectionsThe past year has been very difficult for our family. I lost my father back in April of 2014 rather suddenly to pancreatic cancer. He went in the hospital in pain, stayed, got the results from the screen and the diagnosis, and then passed away within the week. More recently a couple of family members and close family friends. Brain tumors, more cancer, heart attacks. It's been a challenge to say the least. Despite the hardships I feel like we are doing well. I've talked to friends, family and even professionals about various life situations over the past year and we have an amazing moral support system.

In 2015 we plan on doing some traveling - hopefully to Australia and definitely to South Carolina as our annual trip. In the early fall Matt and the children went to San Diego with their Nana (Matt's mom) from Australia. They had an amazing time. I look forward to this coming year but hope for less life challenges as I've had more than enough over the past year. Here's to a new year!

Ben's having a harder time adjusting to her being gone than I am, I think. She seems to really enjoy it and loves being able to pick her own food out for lunch.

At the end of the month the kids are both making their first domestic flight. We're heading to San Diego!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030175269624112386.post-54542561105445310822014-04-14T11:56:00.003-04:002014-04-14T11:56:47.530-04:00Life EventsWell, a lot has happened since December 4th! I'm sorry we don't update more often - most of our updates are posted to Facebook as it's a much easier source to use. Charlotte's now wearing glasses to help correct a minor astigmatism and help with far-farsightedness. Both of the kids now have a pediatric dentist due to a little mishap while rough-housing. Two chipped teeth later (superficial, no fractures) everything is fine. Now, we're starting the process of pre-kindergarten! We're doing our first tour tomorrow and likely registering Charlotte for school in the fall. Swim lessons start this month, as well. Charlotte's occupational therapy has been going well and she may be able to completely stop doing her therapy sessions for her sensory related issues. We're taking a family trip to South Carolina again this year and we're all pretty excited for some relaxing beach time again. I hope everyone else is fairing well! Here are some photos from the last few months:

I guess he felt that today was a good day to start crawling, too. I find it mildly amusing as Charlotte also didn't crawl until she was about 9 months old. So, new tooth and new found freedom all in less than a week! No wonder he's been such a crank monster lately. ;) He's also started pulling himself up on things. Still no luck on crawling, but we're getting there. He definitely has no problem getting to where he wants to be. ;) I can't believe he'll be 9 months old soon.

He's also rolling around everywhere including off the bed (he was fine, don't worry!). He's also in the process of sprouting 2 bottom teeth. It's been.. fun. Yea, we'll just go with that. He's sitting unassisted and pushing himself backwards while on the floor when he's not rolling around like a madman.

Here he is enjoying an empty pack of wipes:

Charlotte enjoyed her very first bowling experience (duck pin bowling) at a friend's birthday party. Funny enough, she's a very gentle bowler and we had to tell her to throw/roll the ball harder than she was. Anyone who knows Char probably realizes how silly that is considering ;)

The norovirus has managed to hit us yet again and it always seems to hit us in February. Every year (minus last year). It was here and left pretty quickly, however. I had a minor case and Matt never really caught anything. We purchased a new car about a month ago which Matt is enjoying immensely. Especially since he's getting, on average, 40mpg.

Looking forward to seeing all of our cousins on Easter Sunday. I imagine there will be another update shortly after Easter with photos. :)

It's so fun to watch the kids interact with one another. Charlotte is easy going and care-free while Ben is very serious. I think the above photo reflects their personalities pretty well. Below is just a short video I took of Ben in the walker.. going backwards ;)

Ben's eating more and more foods every day and he's starting to sit up on his own. He's also a big fan of rolling over and jumping lots in the door jumper and the jumperoo.

Charlotte has been exploring her artistic side more and more. We're not too sure about the body art, but she seems pretty proud of her artwork. Let's just hope she doesn't start using Ben as a canvas.

I (Bam) had to have my gallbladder removed last week so that was surprising! I am almost 100% recovered and had a lot of help around the house during my down time which was much appreciated. Here's hoping the rest of the year is a bit more calm. We had a great time. Indiana got a lot of snow while we were gone so Charlotte was excited for that. Ben's been eating more solids lately. Today we tried mango and it was a success. So far we haven't found anything he dislikes. Here's the video:

Things have been mostly uneventful and laid back. Had a great time in TN for Christmas and rang in the new year down there, as well.

The first weekend we took her down to Nashville, Indiana where we enjoyed shopping and a fun Etsy arts & craft event.

We were in Chicago this past weekend. Ben's first trip and Charlotte's first memorable visit. There were a couple of firsts for her.

First Carousel ride:

and first ferris wheel ride:

It was really high!

We also went to Shedd's Aquarium where she had a fun time playing with the other children running about.

Ben spent the day doing this:
